Contact

One person reads everything that arrives here. Corrections get priority over everything else.

Everything sent here reaches the same desk, and the same person reads it. That means replies are slower than a company with a mailroom, and it also means nothing gets lost in a routing system.

Corrections come first. If a detail on this site is wrong, say which page and what is wrong, and it will be checked and fixed. Fixes carry a line saying what changed and when.

Write to the desk

By sending this you accept the terms and the privacy notice.

What to expect after you write

Notes are read on working afternoons, Monday through Friday, between 1:00 pm and 5:30 pm Eastern Time. Anything arriving outside that window waits until the next one.

Most notes get a reply within two working days. Corrections are usually faster, because checking a fact takes less time than answering a good question properly.

Things worth writing about

A correction. The most useful message this site receives. Trail closures, changed hours, a park that now gates its entrance until seven, a bridge that is out. All of it goes stale, and readers notice before the writer does.

A place worth an early start. Suggestions are read with real interest, particularly for ground within a few hours of Atlanta. There is no promise that a suggestion becomes a piece, and no payment is offered or accepted in either direction for one.

Reuse of a photograph. Every image here was made for this publication and is owned by the company. Reuse is sometimes granted for non commercial and editorial purposes. Say where it would appear and how it would be credited, and you will get a plain answer.

A question about the flight search. How the panel and the arrangement behind it work is set out on the flight search page and again in the independence page. If something there is unclear, that is worth knowing about.

Things this desk cannot help with

Being direct about this saves everyone time.

  • Bookings, changes, refunds and cancellations. Nothing is booked or sold here, so there is nothing to change. Those belong with whoever holds the reservation.
  • Anything to do with a specific airline, hotel or booking service. This publication has no accounts with them and no ability to act on your behalf.
  • Requests to add a business, place or product in exchange for payment. There is no advertising on this site and no paid placement of any kind.
  • Requests for a link in exchange for a link. The site carries no outbound editorial links at all.

Privacy of what you send

A note sent through the form arrives as an email and is kept only as long as it is useful, then deleted. Nothing sent here is sold, rented or passed to anybody for marketing. The full account of what is collected and how long it is held is in the privacy notice, and requests about your own data go to [email protected].

Post and telephone

Written post reaches the publisher at the principal office listed on the about page, which is a shared office building rather than a home address. Post is collected in batches and is much slower than email.

The telephone is answered during desk hours by the same person who writes the site. It is a working line for readers with something to say about the publication. It is not a booking line and there is nothing to buy on it.
